More about the book

Andreas Slominski, described as a "true debaucher" by Monopol, has been a significant figure in contemporary art since the early 1990s, with works featured in numerous museums. His installations often include bicycles loaded with the belongings of homeless individuals and live animal traps, captivating museum-goers. Notably, in 1996 for Skulptur. Projekte Münster, he creatively placed a bicycle inner tube around a street lamp, involving construction workers to execute the task, showcasing his penchant for "complicated actions" where the effort far exceeds practical utility. Slominski's artistic practice emphasizes astonishment and amusement through intricate methods. After studying at Art HFBK in Hamburg, he succeeded Franz Erhard Walther in 2004 following a professorship in Karlsruhe. For the Deichtorhallen, he has created a large-scale installation featuring portable toilets, titled "human being in the voting booth," which comments on the evolving nature of urban spaces. This exhibition, DAS Ü DES TÜRHÜTERS, will display around 100 mobile toilets, with their interior components arranged as colorful wall art. Slominski's work has been showcased in prestigious institutions globally, including Kunsthaus Zurich and Fondazione Prada, and he participated in the Venice Biennale in 1997. His unique perspective will be on display at Deichtorhallen Hamburg from May to August 2016.
