Dieter Meier - Personalities

In 1972, Dieter Meier began to work with made-up individuals, which often feature autobiographical traits, culminating in his most elaborate photographic series, the Personalities. With varying clothing, gestures, and facial expressions, the artist transformed himself into 48 different characters. The result is haunting: although Meier’s distinctive facial features are always recognizable, the sheer number of embodiments gradually dissolves the perception of the artist as an individual. For the first time, this publication brings together a complete survey of Meier’s Personalities. The accompanying text by Pamela Kort analyzes and contextualizes the group of works and for the first time focuses on the multitalented musician Meier as a ground-breaking visual artist.
