More about the book

Tomé s Children Portrait Museum: The drawings of Tomé are about child soldiers, war children, child labor, starvation, water shortage, violence against children, abuse, poverty or circumcision of boys, and THESE unsparingly and blunt drawings are rather disturbing, but this is exactly as intended. But there are also many drawings showing love, happiness, laughter and beauty in a carefree childhood. But the laugh of a child can also be found in children who live in misery and poverty, because children are the jewels of life itself. For this book, more than 600 children portraits have been selected from more than 4´200 child portrait drawings. The artist says: "In my work I want to portray and show the child in happiness and in distress. With the dramatic drawings of children who have been struck mercilessly by fatalities, I want to touch the hearts of the people and, by drawing also the beauty and joy of children, I want to show how precious this short childhood is, as it is nothing less than the foundation of our future world. But I also want to draw the child as a whole person, because the child has its very own body language, and the observer cannot escape the sight of a bloodied child killed by mines, but he should also be allowed to enjoy the natural and innocent beauty of a child.“
