More about the book

Ragna Róbertsdóttir (b. 1945 in Reykjavík, Iceland; lives and works in Reykjavík and Berlin) gained recognition for her minimalist wall and floor pieces made from materials like lava pumice, broken glass, seashells, and neon plastic chips. These works, either glued to walls or laid on floors, create seamless transitions between the harshness of nature and urban architecture. Her sculptures, crafted from volcanic rock and the crystalline residue of evaporated seawater, are installed in both interior and exterior spaces, paying tribute to Iceland's rugged and ever-changing landscapes. Róbertsdóttir's art merges the uncompromising nature of American Land Art with the materials of Italian Arte Povera, forming a unique aesthetic that has established her as a prominent figure in Iceland. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions across Europe, the United States, China, and Australia. This extensive monograph documents her artistic journey since the 1980s, showcasing numerous installation views, individual works, and drawings, accompanied by essays from Markús Thór Andrésson and Gregory Volk.
