Simon Franklin is orphaned at the age of 14, and is very determined that he will not go into the care of the local authority under any circumstances. His uncle who lives in Cornwall at Witchaven Hall offers him a permanent home, and he teams up with his uncle's two sons when they come for a short holiday.
