The book was originally published in 2004, and was praised as one of the most readable and attractive books on letterforms. The “modern classic” has been sold out and hard to find for many years. Dutch author Jan Middendorp, now in Berlin, decided to self-publish a near-identical reprint of the book in 2018 under his imprint Druk Editions. World-renowned designer and typography guru Erik Spiekermann welcomed the revival of Dutch Type calling it “the best book about any type anywhere, ever. Really.”
