The book examines the 2007/08 financial crisis as a critical indicator of deep-seated issues within the financial sector, which has transformed over the past thirty years. Despite improved access to financial services, global debt has ballooned to over twice the size of GDP, with financial services exerting a far greater influence on economies than in the 1960s. The author argues that these changes have yielded minimal benefits and calls for significant reform of the largely deregulated financial sector to address these systemic flaws.
