Nuba Mountain language studies

More about the book

The first Nuba Mountain Languages Conference was held at Leiden University in 2012, with proceedings published as Schadeberg & Blench (2013). The second conference occurred at INALCO, Paris, in August 2014. This volume presents selected presentations from the Third Nuba Mountain Languages Conference at the University of Cologne, held from September 27-29, 2017, along with additional contributions on languages from the region that could not be presented at the conference. The content includes an introduction by Gerrit J. Dimmendaal, followed by descriptive studies on various linguistic aspects, such as prepositions, nominal and verbal number, and noun class genders across different languages like Katcha, Tabaq, Tagoi, and Koalib. Comparative studies explore classification of non-Eastern-Sudanic languages, genetic relationships among Heiban and Talodi, vowel harmony typology, and Kordofanian reconstruction. Additionally, previous works related to Kordofanian languages and cultures are listed, including grammars, dictionaries, and phonological studies, highlighting the ongoing research and documentation efforts in this linguistically diverse region.
