More about the book

Reflecting on the future of society inevitably involves considering transportation systems. The challenge is clear: while mobility is essential for economic growth and personal freedom, it also burdens individuals, communities, and the environment. Finding a viable solution to this dilemma remains elusive. In response, the North Rhine-Westphalia Science and Research Ministry initiated a plan to create a solid scientific foundation to address the issues within our transport system. A research network, funded by the government for three years, has been established to achieve this goal. The "Traffic Simulation and Environmental Impact" network comprises highly regarded traffic experts from North Rhine-Westphalia. This interdisciplinary collaboration seeks to merge transportation and natural sciences, particularly physics and mathematics, to leverage the synergy between technical expertise and innovative methodologies. The current volume serves as a progress report and an introduction to the upcoming international colloquium, which will mark both the culmination of the three-year project funding period and a significant milestone in the quest for sustainable transportation solutions.
