More about the book
Over the last few decades, Aulis Aarnio has significantly contributed to the foundations of practical legal argumentation and modern jurisprudence, influenced by contemporary language philosophy and Ludwig Wittgenstein's later works, as well as the analytical-hermeneutic philosophy of Georg Henrik von Wright. His original research in law and legal systems, recognized with the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, has transformed modern legal science, particularly in legal methodology and social theory. As editor-in-chief of "Associations," a new periodical, he has further shaped the discourse in these fields. A "Festschrift" was presented to him on his 60th birthday by friends and colleagues worldwide in a specially crafted edition. This collection serves as a handbook to his discipline, offering profound responses to his influential work, "The Rational as Reasonable. A Treatise on Legal Justification," which has advanced contemporary research in legal interpretation and argumentation. It addresses nearly all central issues related to the application of law and its justification.
