This work was submitted as a doctoral thesis to the English department of the University of Marburg in April 2000. It presents and critically views the current state of the application of new technologies in Germany's higher education, including the theoretical background and the didactics of multimedia. In addition to examples from various projects and statistic material based on surveys conducted by several organisations and universities, a field study on the application of a multimedia program which has been applied within the English linguistics department of the University of Marburg is included. 250 pages with several tables and graphics.
