More about the book

The annual colloquium on information retrieval research offers a platform for both emerging and seasoned researchers to present their work, whether in progress or completed. Established by the BCS IRSG (British Computer Society Information Retrieval Specialist Group), it was renamed the “European Annual Colloquium on Information Retrieval Research” in 2001 to reflect its growing European focus. Since its inception in 1979, the event has been hosted in Glasgow four times, with the 2002 colloquium being notably organized by three different computer and information science departments, showcasing the collaborative spirit of IR research in West Scotland. The 2002 event experienced a significant increase in high-quality submissions, resulting in 52 papers being reviewed by three program committee members each through a double-blind process. Ultimately, 23 papers were selected for oral presentation, yielding an acceptance rate of under 45%, which underscored the high standards of the research shared during the colloquium.
