More about the book
A comprehensive guide to the museum, which has been reopened after years of reconstruction and interim solutions. The Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig, which is one of Germany’s oldest publicly funded museums, was established at the initiative of the local arts society, which had been founded in 1837. Since the nineteenth century, the stocks of the Museum der bildenden Künste have been constantly augmented thanks to numerous endowments and donations by private art lovers. The historical museum building was destroyed in the Second World War and for decades the collection had to be housed on a temporary basis. As of December 2004, its permanent domicile is the new museum building. This richly illustrated guide presents masterpieces of painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography, video and installation art, from the Middle Ages to today.
