Handling the overwhelming complexity of current distributed embedded systems is probably one of the most challenging tasks in the design of automotive computing systems. This book explores the opportunities of self-management in this domain. The architectural foundations for building both self-healing and self-configuring systems can be found in a flexible software component architecture as well as in a certain degree of well structured self-knowledge. Control cycle algorithms for self-management are presented and evaluated in a simulation environment. The topic is presented with special focus on the demanding requirements of distributed automotive computing systems.
