This book describes lovingly & mournfully the variety of Galician shtetl life that no longer exists. In a forced-labor camp Halpern beat near-starvation & typhus. He & his brother Arie escaped & were hidden by old family friends until liberation, when they picked up the threads of their lives. Halpern & his wife, Gladys, raised a family & became involved in the international Jewish community.
