More about the book
Ben Baddel sets off on a cross-country trek along the southern border of the United States––on foot––in an ill-conceived plan to seek out his lost love in LA and win her back. Along the way, he meets an eccentric bard and poet, Henri. Known by many simply as HP (the Hobo Poet), he accompanies Ben on his trek. Though their personalities are polar opposites, the two men quickly become as close as blood brothers. During their perambulations, the two encounter many others whose ways-of-life (different and idiosyncratic in their own right), provide the material for the patchwork quilt that is American society and culture. One person in particular, a young and attractive homeless teenager, Cami, provides Ben with a new outlook on life. She also presents him with a choice that, should he accept it, will change the course of not only his trek but also his life.
