More about the book
Brought up in the Free Church of Scotland, Robert Mackintosh (1858-1933) left that Church on conscientious grounds, and became a Congregationalist. After a pastorate in Dumfries he served for over thirty years as a Professor at Lancashire Independent College, Manchester. Two chapters are devoted to his life and work, and three to his thought. In a concluding chapter his over-all contribution is assessed. Mackintosh emerges as a critical, level-headed dogmatician who sought to relate theology to philosophical and other thought, and to the issues of his day. Provocative yet humble, many of the things he has to say are thoroughly germane to the current theological and ecclesiastical debate.
