This compendium to the author's History of the Karaites is an alphabetical encyclopedia of all matters Karaite, listing not only most Karaites of importance, such as political and communal leaders and philosophers, grammarians, exegetes and other thinkers and writers, but also the main modern scholars who have left their mark on Karaite studies; further the main countries and cities in which Karaite communities have existed; the main Karaite religious customs and festivals; the relations to Judaism, Islam and Christianity and to such sects as the Samaritans, Essenes, Sadducees and Falashas; the influence of the Dead Sea Scrolls or the Khazars on their development; such Karaite terms as 'Edah or Ha'atakah and general articles on their demography, or philosophy and exegesis.
