More about the book
Porsche portrays the Porsche story not as a dry record in retrospect but as a lively narrative of the cars and the people who created them for more than half a century. In the opening chapters the reader will find the true heart of Porsche and its dedication to design and engineering. The story of early post WW11 years in Austria is a tale of committment to an idea, an idea which resulted in the first 356 models and in a very short period of time established Porsche as one of Germany's leading car makers. The book also covers the pre-WWII developments of Porsche and the first prototypes, and the development of the Volkswagen by Professor Ferdinand Porsche in the late 1930's. The narrative is brilliantly complimented by original colour photography by the author combined with historical photography from the factory archives. Here is not only the whole story of the 356 but also the development of competition versions, and the evolution of the 550 RSK and legendary 904 Carrera GTS. The story of the 911 will comprise fully half of the book's content as this model has survived for nearly four decades - the longest production of any post-war automobile design in history.
