More about the book
The ever-increasing need for higher data rates in wireless communication imposes tighter requirements on the system components. In particular, the analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) might become a limiting factor in modern high speed radio links. This work investigates the impact of finite resolution of the ADCs in the receiver on the performance of MIMO communication systems. In addition to the information-theoretic analysis demonstrating the potential of communication systems with coarse quantization, appropriate signal processing concepts for symbol detection and channel parameter estimation are developed. Furthermore, a circuit-aware energy optimization framework is proposed showing that reducing the ADCs resolution is optimal in terms of total energy consumption.
