Smoothed particle hydrodynamics in urban water management

More about the book

In this thesis the novel fully Lagrangian smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is for the first time ever applied to the field of urban water management (UWM). After introducing SPH the method’s capabilities for channel and multiphase flows as well as for wastewater treatment (WWT) simulations are assessed. We achieve accurate results for channel flow problems, but for certain setups a mode of instability intrinsic to the method limits the practicability. In spite of that the utilisation of the meshless particle-based SPH method comes along with important assets like the support of free surfaces and multiphase flows.
