More about the book
For the realization of increasing modular concepts in automotive engineering the paint preserving joining technique adhesive bonding is predestined. The fact that automotive coatings are not developed under the aspect of load transmission as well as the high influence of the specific paint and adhesive properties to the functional performance of the joint places high requirements on the choice of the appropriate adhesive. The present thesis aims as well the development as the testing of a universal methodology for the systematic characterization and evaluation of assembly adhesive bonds with painted adherends in structural and crash relevant vehicle structures. Although especially the influence of the adhesives on the structural and failure behaviour of examined coatings cathodic dip painting, paint mist (overspray) and topcoat taking into account aging and variation of load type and load rate is analysed by using different adhesive systems, which differ in stiffness, tensile strength and breaking elongation. The examination of relevant influencing parameters on the paint-composite-bonding is carried out using elementary samples while the crash performance is elaborated by using component related profiles. From the results, both the potentials and the limits of the use of cold curing assembly adhesives in structural and crash relevant vehicle structures are derived.
