More about the book
This work gives an overview of borescopic 3D inspection. It focuses on the use of fringe projection profilometry with a borescope for image projection and a chip-on-tip camera for image acquisition. It starts with a short history of endoscopes and covers the state of the art of 3D optical measurement and endoscopic inspection systems. The main part addresses the development of a rigid borescopic fringe projection system. The high distortion of a borescope and its flexible shaft yield new challenges towards the calibration of such a measurement system. Major contributions where made towards the analysis and compensation of aberrations caused by bending of the rigid borescope. Hence a method for orientation sensitive calibration was introduced. Additionally, the topic of calibrating a serial kinematic, used to position the measurement system relative to a specimen, is covered. Finally, this work concludes with measurement results and an outlook for further research.
