Cologne commentary on space law

More about the book

The Cologne Commentary on Space Law (CoCoSL) is a three-volume work that annotates the norms of space law as found in UN Treaties and General Assembly Resolutions. This joint publication by the Institute of Air and Space Law at the University of Cologne and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) merges academic expertise with practical insights, making it essential for academics, practitioners, and technicians in the field. Volume II focuses on four key UN Treaties: the 1968 Rescue Agreement, the 1972 Liability Convention, the 1975 Registration Convention, and the 1979 Moon Agreement. Contributions from experienced authors across various legal traditions delve into these treaties, which build upon the foundational concepts established in the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. The commentary in Volume I provides a basis for understanding the legal norms that Volume II elaborates on. In recognition of its excellence, the International Academy of Astronautics awarded the Editors of CoCoSL its Social Sciences Book Award for Volume I in 2010. Volume II maintains the unique commentary approach of its predecessor, offering a detailed, provision-by-provision interpretation while also discussing the historical context, state practice, current relevance, and future implications of the treaties.
