Born in Derbyshire in 1896, Dodie Smith became a prominent dramatist whose homesickness for England during her time in the USA inspired her acclaimed novel, I Capture the Castle, published in 1948. The novel quickly gained popularity, leading to stage adaptations in the 1950s and a successful film version in 2003. In addition to this classic, Smith is well-known for The Hundred and One Dalmatians, which has been adapted into two beloved Disney films. She passed away in 1990, leaving a lasting literary legacy.
