Leaving his home and his beloved wife Bea, the priest Peter Lee, on the instructions of the mysterious corporation USIC, goes to the planet Oasis. The man's mission is to establish contact with the natives, who above all they seek to know the Bible, which is called the Book of Strange New Things. Until Peter gets used to the new world, the Earth will slowly - at first slowly, and more rapidly with each passing day - slide to its end. The hero gradually realizes why he actually came to the Oasis and what his mission was. He has to choose between his faith and love, and his life depends on that decision.
