Nasal polyposis : an inflammatory disease and its treatment

More about the book

This volume discusses the aetiology of nasal polyposis. Although the cause of this annoying disease is still unknown and although the described therapy is not satisfactory from an aetiological point of view, the balanced therapeutic approach, as described in the book, should he helpful for the otorhinolaryngologist and in particularly to his patient. Otorhinolaryngologists frequently see patients with nasal polyps. These patients demand effective treatment because of rhinitis symptoms, nasal blockage and an impaired sense of smell and with that, an impaired sense of taste. Because of these symptoms, many patients suspect that they suffer from an allergic disease and allergists believe that the aetiology of this disease is allergy to inhalent allergens, food allergens and even allergy to bacterial products. However, the critical otorhinolaryngologist has not been impressed by the therapeutic results of this postulated allergy history, and has instead helped his patients by a more straightforward surgical approach.
