World War Two is breaking out in London and the Lockwood children are sent away to live in the countryside. When they discover some ruins beyond the country estate their Uncle Peregrine tells them that it was once a place called Snow Castle, and that there's a terrible tale associated with the place. As the children manage to coax the story in instalments out of Peregrine, the Castle holds a new fascination for girls Cecily and May when they realise two boys are hiding in the castle's ruin.
