More about the book
Der Ägyptische Struwwelpeter, published anonymously in Vienna in 1895, is one of the most original among the many existing Struwwelpeter parodies. The book transfers Heinrich Hoffmanns cautionary tales most convincingly and with many witty ideas to ancient Egypt. Der Ägyptische Struwwelpeter is also the only Struwwelpeter parody which appeared in a contemporary translation, under the title The Egyptian Struwwelpeter (1896). Both titles are published here together in facsimile as a bilingual, upside-down book to be read from both ends. An afterword informs the reader about the books interesting genesis.
