Shoy's childhood was shattered from the age of five by Roger, an out-of-work, married, trusted lodger spying on her and watching her every move. He embarked on several years of blackmail, degradation and shameful acts that no-one could possibly begin to imagine or inflict on a child. He continually raped her within the walls of her home, the one place that should have been safe and secure. Shoy carries her dark, sometimes engulfing secret into her late twenties until forced to reveal it. It is at this point in her life that all the fear of speaking out is realised and she is not believed. Destroyed and broken from this, she looks at her two young children and decides for them and her own sanity to seek help taking her on a journey that will finally see her facing and accepting her past, finding new strength and regaining her identity enabling her to be successful in her endeavours and strong as a single parent, but above all surviving.
