Beginning with the Polish, French, Dutch, Belgian, Danish, Norwegian and British forces that attempted to stem the Blitzkrieg, and ending with the composite Allied forces that Eisenhower halted on the Elbe river, a wide range of ground forces fought against the Third Reich in the European and Mediterranean theatres.
