This title covers a period of great change in the town of St Andrews brought about by significant population growth and large scale building work. The images contained within this book were all taken by George Cowie, a professional photographer who worked in St Andrews for over half a century from 1929. Featured photographs include Stonemasons at work, printing presses and weaving machinery with their operators, College Gate, St Andrews students fund-raising campaign including the Charities Queen, prefabricated houses, the Royal and Ancient Golf Clubs cannon being fired, St Andrews station in 1952, the Lammas Market, the annual motor race on the West Sands and the construction of the university library in North Street.
