The second volume in this series contains selected papers submitted for the 1990 Material Handling Research Colloquium held in Hebron, Kentucky, June 19-21, 1990. The contributions reflect the current state of material handling research at universities from across the United States and Canada presenting specific research directions and accomplishments. Implications of the basic constraints to solving industry relevant problems in the field of material handling and closely related activities are discussed. The efficacy of the approaches being taken at the present time are analyzed, and the directions believed to be of most value to industry and to the advancement of the knowledge and science of material handling are pointed out.
