More about the book

This book documents the diesel locomotives constructed by Baldwin Locomotive Works and models built by its successor, Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton. There were 3209 diesels constructed between 1925 and 1956, including those built under the Baldwin-Westinghouse (but not "Westinghouse" alone) name. The book covers the history of Baldwin, from Mathias Baldwin forward, so that the reader has a sense of the size and importance of the firm as the diesel age dawned and the giant Eddystone complex was opened. Baldwin produced yard switchers, streamlined passenger-service models, dual-engine transfer diesels, heavy road switchers, streamlined freight service models, light road switchers, and models only for export. Each type of diesel produced is described in detail with information on many of the locomotives' service records, retirements and occasional preservation. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. Includes complete production list. 152 pages with index.
