Phil Silvers (1911-1985), known as "The King of Chutzpah," was an American comedy actor famous for "The Phil Silvers Show," where he played Sergeant Bilko. Born in Brooklyn to a Russian-Ukrainian Jewish family, he began entertaining at age 11 and transitioned from singing in theaters to vaudeville.
