More about the book
Neewa, a black bear cub, experiences the world for the first time as he emerges from his den in late March. His mother, Noozak, an elderly bear, has hibernated longer than usual, resulting in Neewa being slightly older than typical cubs when they finally venture out. From their high ridge den, Neewa is initially overwhelmed by the brightness and new sensations of the valley below, while Noozak takes a moment to adjust to the warmth and light after the long winter. The story captures their awakening to the vibrant world around them.
