More about the book

Born in Cork in 1784, James Sheridan Knowles transitioned from a military career to the stage, eventually becoming a playwright. Though his acting was not distinguished, he excelled in crafting engaging situations for actors, earning the admiration of the prominent actor Macready. Prior to his success, he supported himself through teaching elocution in Belfast and Glasgow. His first play, "Caius Gracchus," premiered in 1815, marking the beginning of his notable contributions to the theater, despite not achieving great acclaim as a poet.
