Jochen Plogsties (*1974) creates paintings that reinterpret well-known artworks through reproductions. His sources include art catalog images, album covers, and contemporary photography. His 'retranslations' challenge familiar perceptions by altering scale and employing a coarse painting technique, questioning the mediated reality that makes us feel we've seen everything important before.
