The Battle of Salamis occurred on September 29, 480 BC, between Greeks and Persians near Athens. It was a significant naval battle in ancient Mediterranean history. Following the Persian defeat at Marathon, King Darius I aimed to conquer Greek city-states. After Darius's death, Xerxes I continued preparations, leading to the battles at Thermopylae and Artemision.
