Albert Roussel's opera-ballet “Padmâvatî” was composed between 1913 and 1918, inspired by his 1909 journey to India. The libretto, by Louis Laloy, is based on a legend from Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s “Padmavat.” The work features Indian scales, rich melodies, vibrant rhythms, and extensive orchestral passages for dance. This edition includes the French original and a new English translation.
