The travels and travails of music

Focusing on the interplay of music, culture, and radio in Fiji, this work challenges traditional views of cultural change by emphasizing the role of people in the evolution of music rather than the music itself. Through key historical moments in 1937, 1978, and 2009, the author, a renowned anthropologist and ethnomusicologist, highlights innovative initiatives that shape musical expression. This study significantly contributes to the understanding of popular music in South Seas cultures and the vital role of radio in island societies, offering insights for broader cultural studies.
