Catherine Louisa Lyne, born in 1839 London, was a prolific writer known for her creation of Loveday Brooke, a popular lady detective featured in short stories. After marrying Frederick Edward Pirkis in 1872, she balanced family life with her writing career, producing fourteen novels and numerous short stories. In addition to her literary contributions, she co-founded the National Canine Defence League and was active in the anti-vivisectionist movement. Pirkis passed away in 1910 after a long illness, shortly after her husband's death.
