More about the book
The study explores the request behavior of Tunisian ESP learners, focusing on the requestive expressions and their characteristics. Using a Discourse Completion Test, data were collected from 67 master's students at the Faculty of Letters and Humanities in Sfax. The analysis, based on Blum-Kulka's framework, revealed varying request strategies—direct, conventionally indirect, and non-conventionally indirect—shaped by social factors such as distance, power, and imposition ranking. This research provides insights into the linguistic forms present in ESP manuals for this learner group.
