BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND DEEP BLUE SEA

The narrative follows a young boy's harrowing journey from Germany to Poland, where he becomes trapped during the Nazi invasion. After surviving the siege of Lwow and enduring life in a Soviet Gulag at twelve, he embarks on a perilous trek through Russia and central Asia. His experiences in Alma Ata, marked by brushes with death and a quest for education, reflect his maturation amidst chaos. Upon returning to a devastated Poland, he faces hostility before illegally crossing into Germany, where he begins medical studies while awaiting a visa to the USA, culminating in his arrival in Manhattan.
