More about the book

The thesis investigates how aging affects the reliability of intumescent coatings (ICs) on steel columns under fire conditions. Utilizing Monte Carlo simulations, it assesses the failure probability of these columns during compartment fires by incorporating the variable insulation properties of ICs. The research draws on existing literature regarding the aging effects on these properties. A probabilistic approach is developed to estimate the service life of ICs, comparing the failure probabilities to target structural fire design probabilities, applicable to both ICs and conventional fire protection materials.
