More about the book
Investigating the role of gap junction communication in circadian rhythms, this study utilized chicken embryonic retinal explant cultures to observe the effects of light on iodopsin and AANAT mRNA rhythms. The application of two reversible gap junction blockers led to a significant and lasting decrease in mRNA levels for both genes. Notably, transcript rhythms resumed within 24 hours after blocker removal, indicating that the observed changes were not due to disruptions in circadian oscillators but may involve uncoupling or alterations in transcript stability.
