Born into a wealthy family in London, Algernon Charles Swinburne emerged as a prominent poet and playwright, gaining fame with works like "Atalanta in Calydon" and "Poems and Ballads," which explored controversial themes. His writing is characterized by intense lyricism, intricate imagery, and innovative rhythms. Despite a decline in popularity, he contributed significantly to literary criticism and produced notable poetry during his later years, largely under the influence of his friend Theodore Watts-Dunton. Swinburne passed away in 1909 at seventy-two.
