More about the book
A prominent figure in American literature and Jewish advocacy, Emma Lazarus was deeply influenced by her Sephardic heritage and the plight of Jewish immigrants. Her literary contributions included poetry, a novel, and plays, with "The New Colossus" being her most renowned work, famously inscribed at the Statue of Liberty. Lazarus's activism was sparked by anti-Semitic violence in Russia, leading her to support Jewish immigrants through education and vocational training. She is recognized as a forerunner of the Zionist movement and has been honored posthumously for her contributions.
