More about the book
The narrative follows the life of a woman born in Illinois who, after moving to Chicago, navigates the challenges of family, health, and marriage. Despite her early education at Vassar College, she turns to acting at 18, joining a traveling theatrical company led by her future husband, George Crichton Miln. Their marriage in 1888 leads to a difficult life in Australia, marked by poverty and struggle, especially after he departs for New Zealand, leaving her to care for their three young children in Sydney.
