The story follows George Fraser, a lonely and timid man who escapes into a fantasy world filled with gangsters and adventure. To combat his feelings of inferiority, he starts envisioning himself as a formidable gangster. However, his overconfidence leads him to boast to the wrong individual, setting off a chain of events that challenges his illusions and forces him to confront reality.
